What’s New in Hyvä: Latest Updates for Magento Store Owners

CEO @ IT Delight

Hyvä team has spent the last five years quietly reshaping how Magento storefronts are built. No one expected the latest Hyvä Magento updates to go this far. In less than a year, Hyvä moved from being “the fast Magento theme” to reshaping its entire ecosystem. The theme shifted to open source. A new product suite, Hyvä Commerce, was launched. A global certification program also appeared. Then, Hyvä AI Skills quietly joined the roadmap.

Our team at IT Delight has worked with Hyvä for a long time, and we found the scale and speed of these changes notable. The forward roadmap has a clear through-line: make Magento less painful to work with, at every layer. The scope of what’s planned is broader than anything Hyvä has ever committed to.

In this article, we break down exactly what has changed, what is already available, and what Magento store owners should realistically expect from Hyvä in 2026 and beyond.

Why Hyvä Has Become the Default Choice for Magento Stores

A technical advantage mostly drives Hyvä’s growth. The original Hyvä Theme replaced RequireJS and KnockoutJS with Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS. That single architectural shift dramatically reduced page weight, making Magento stores genuinely competitive on Core Web Vitals. That foundation turned out to be far more extensible than anyone expected, and the community became one of the most active in the Magento world.

Why Hyvä Has Become the Default Choice for Magento Stores

Businesses building on Hyvä tend to ship faster, require less maintenance, and deliver storefronts that perform better out of the box. Hyvä frontend performance has become a genuine selling point, especially in real-world business outcomes like lower bounce rates and higher conversion rates. The numbers reflect this:

  • As of early 2026, the Hyvä Slack community has grown to around 6,900 members, and over 300 clients have already adopted Hyvä Commerce since its launch.
  • More than 850 agencies and freelancers worldwide now have active experience with Hyvä.
  • In terms of platform rankings, BuiltWith data shows Hyvä Themes ranks 18th globally among eCommerce technologies.

What’s New in Hyvä: Key Updates for 2026

The past twelve months have seen more structural change in the Hyvä product lineup than any previous period. Below here’s what has actually shipped.

Hyvä Commerce

Hyvä Commerce reached General Availability in July 2025 and represents the biggest change to the product lineup to date. It bundles together the core Hyvä products in a single subscription: Hyvä Theme, Checkout, UI, a new CMS, an admin theme refresh, and an integrated image editor. It costs €3,000 per installation. This pricing model is deliberately simple. You pay per installation.

Hyvä Commerce

Besides, existing license holders can trade in their theme or checkout licenses through a cashback mechanism, resulting in significantly lower first-year costs. For Adobe Commerce merchants, combining Hyvä Commerce with Hyvä Enterprise brings the total to €5,500 per year.

Hyvä Commerce is not a SaaS product. It sits on top of Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce, so merchants retain full ownership of their data, hosting choices, and customizations.

Hyvä CMS

The most discussed component of Hyvä Commerce is the new CMS. Magento’s Page Builder has long frustrated both developers and content managers. So, now we have an alternative, or even better to say upgrade – Hyvä CMS. It has real-time live preview, versioning, archiving, drafts, scheduling, drag-and-drop layout, and a component system that developers can extend in minutes. Content is stored as JSON instead of raw HTML. This makes moving and deploying environments more predictable. Teams that work with it report that they can build new content components in just one day.

Hyvä Theme

The Hyvä Theme is now accessible to any Magento developer without a paid license via free license keys. Recent updates include:

  • TailwindCSS and AlpineJS integration
  • Design tokens and CSS variables for a consistent look
  • Refreshed cart page
  • Improved accordion and slider features
  • Full storewide Content Security Policy support for compliance

Hyvä Checkout Updates

Hyvä Checkout received a substantial design refresh with improved accessibility and developer control.  Luma’s default checkout has been heavy, slow to customize, and painful to extend. Hyvä Checkout takes a different approach. It is built on Magewire, Alpine.js, and Tailwind CSS, with most of the logic handled server-side using familiar Magento PHP patterns. This means less JavaScript for developers and a faster, more adaptable checkout for merchants.

The latest update brings a cleaner UI and better accessibility standards. It also supports full Content Security Policy. This includes Adobe Payment Services like Card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, and the default PayPal methods.

Hyvä Certification Programme

Hyvä launched a formal Professional Developer Certification that validates expertise in building on the Hyvä stack. For agencies, it provides a credible way to differentiate their Hyvä development capabilities. For merchants evaluating development partners, it’s a practical filter when assessing whether a team has genuine hands-on experience or just general Magento familiarity.

Hyvä Certification Programme

By the way, our team at IT Delight includes a certified Hyvä developer, so we work directly within the program’s standards. We can bring real, hands-on Hyvä experience to every Hyvä project.

Hyvä AI Skills

In January 2026, Hyvä released AI Skills. The package includes Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Gemini CLI. Hyvä AI Skills injects Hyvä-specific knowledge into the assistant’s working context on demand, without taking up context window space when not in use. It only takes one command to install. The repository is open source, and community contributions help expand skill sets over time. For Hyvä, this is its first direct experience with AI. The approach is deliberately cross-ecosystem, meaning teams can use it with any coding assistant they prefer.

The Hyvä Roadmap: What’s Coming Beyond

The public roadmap shows three tiers of planned work. We select the most relevant and current plans for merchants and agencies planning their roadmap.

Currently in Active Development: Next 1-3 Months

Admin Dashboard with Widget Framework – a configurable admin landing page with widgets for Core Web Vitals (via Google CrUX data), order volume, sales funnel activity, recent orders, cart conversion rates, and more.

Media Optimization – on-the-fly image resizing and conversion to WebP and AVIF formats, integrated into Hyvä CMS, category pages, and media gallery output. The Hyvä team notes that WebP compresses images by an average of 35% compared to JPEG, and AVIF by around 50%.

Hyvä CMS Content Translations – translate content per store scope without duplicating page structure.

Menu Builder – a visual tool for building storefront navigation menus with mega menus and mobile-specific drill-down menus.

Linked Products – Show product variations on listing and detail pages. Each variation has its own URL, which helps with SEO. This also allows for easy browsing, like configurable products.

Adobe Commerce B2B 1.5 compatibility – including Negotiable Quote enhancements, templates, and Company Hierarchy support.

Nearest Development: 3-6 Months

  • Visual product merchandising tool for managing category product orders via drag-and-drop.
  • Improved email templates with a rebuilt framework focused on usability.
  • In-checkout login and registration workflows, removing the need to redirect customers away from checkout.
  • Additional out-of-the-box checkout layouts and improved address handling.
  • Magewire v3 support in Hyvä Checkout, bringing further performance improvements and new developer features.
  • Customer account area design refresh, including login and registration pages.
  • Adobe Commerce General Availability releases for both Hyvä Theme and Hyvä Checkout.

Longer-Term Planned Features: 6+ Months

The further-out roadmap includes customer segmentation with CMS personalization, Apple/Google login, passwordless email login, server-side tracking, improved category merchandising and filters, in-store pickup support, saved payment methods, and checkout reCAPTCHA. Overall, the direction is clear: bring more of the standard eCommerce feature set natively into the Hyvä stack.

When You Should Consider Hyvä for Your Magento Store

Hyvä is more than a Magento frontend theme. It continuously updates and has grown into a broader ecosystem. However, switching to Hyvä may not suit every project.

Hyvä may be a good fit if:

1. Your Magento Store Has Performance Issues

One of the main reasons companies migrate to Hyvä is frontend performance. Traditional Luma-based Magento storefronts often rely on heavy JavaScript and complex dependencies. This slows rendering, which can hurt Core Web Vitals, search rankings, and the user experience. Hyvä replaces complex frameworks with lightweight technologies like Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS, significantly reducing frontend complexity.

2. You Want Better Magento Frontend Development Efficiency

Another reason businesses adopt Hyvä is developer productivity. The traditional Magento frontend stack can slow development cycles due to complicated layouts, KnockoutJS dependencies, and large codebases. Hyvä simplifies this architecture, making Hyvä Magento development significantly faster and easier to maintain.

3. You Need a Modern Checkout Experience

Checkout performance and UX are critical for conversion rates. The Hyvä Checkout project addresses long-standing challenges with Magento’s default checkout. With frequent Hyvä Checkout updates, the checkout experience is becoming faster, more customizable, and easier to integrate with modern payment providers.

4. You Want to Improve Magento UX Without Replatforming

Many businesses consider replatforming when their storefront becomes difficult to maintain or optimize. However, moving away from Magento can be expensive and risky. Hyvä offers another path: modernizing the Magento frontend performance layer while keeping the existing Magento backend. This approach allows merchants to maintain Magento’s powerful commerce capabilities while achieving the speed and UX expectations of modern storefronts.

5. You Plan to Scale or Continuously Improve Your Store

Hyvä has evolved into a fast-growing ecosystem supported by developers, agencies, and official initiatives such as the Hyvä Certification program. This ecosystem makes long-term development more predictable for merchants. Instead of relying on isolated custom solutions, merchants gain access to a community-driven stack with improved Hyvä Magento compatibility, extensions, and best practices.

Conclusion

Yes, Hyvä started as a performance-focused Magento theme. But the latest Hyvä Magento updates show that it is quickly evolving into something much bigger. Today, it includes checkout, UI components, CMS capabilities, certification programs, and even early AI tooling.

Then Hyvä Commerce crystallizes this evolution. Hyvä is uniting key tools into one product suite. This shift creates a more integrated development stack. It simplifies the building and maintenance of Magento storefronts.

If Hyvä continues to develop at this pace, we can expect deeper integration with the Magento ecosystem in the coming years. It is making Hyvä not just a frontend choice, but an increasingly central part of how modern Magento stores are built.
